$5 million of artwork destroyed at Dallas Museum of Art

Much more than $5 million worth of art, like a few ancient Greek items, was destroyed at the Dallas Museum of Art after a gentleman broke in Wednesday night, the Dallas Morning Information claimed.

Brian Hernandez, 21, was in custody immediately after police said he broke into the museum around 10 p.m. and was arrested soon after leaving the scene, KDFW-Television claimed. Hernandez was not carrying weapons and no one was harm, according to a spokeswoman for the museum.

The Dallas Museum of Artwork was open Thursday, but some displays were being shut.

Hernandez broke into a glass exhibit scenario and ruined a 6th-century B.C. Greek ceramic vase and a Greek pot from around 450 B.C., the Dallas Early morning News claimed. He’s also accused of destroying a $100,000 Greek bowl from concerning 550 and 530 B.C. and a $10,000 ceramic Caddo effigy bottle modeled soon after an alligator gar.

“This was an isolated incident perpetrated by one unique performing by yourself, whose intent was not theft of artwork or any objects on watch at the Museum,” the museum reported in a assertion. “ When we are devastated by this incident, we are grateful that no a person was harmed. The basic safety of our workers and guests, along with the treatment and protection of the art in our stewardship, are our utmost priorities.”
