Jamaica Plain was a pedestrian paradise on Sunday, as more than 1 mile of Centre Street shut down for the launch of Open Streets Boston.

The city closed 1.2 miles of the major road to motor vehicle traffic, as the JP street was transformed to a site of family-friendly events, live art, music, food trucks and more.

“When streets are for people, the people come out!” Mayor Michelle Wu tweeted. “Thanks to all who worked so hard for today’s 1st #OpenStreetsBoston on Centre — see you next month on Blue Hill Ave.”

The Blue Hill Avenue Open Streets Boston day will be on Aug. 6 between Warren Street and Dudley Street.

The third Open Streets Boston day will be on Sept. 24 along Dorchester Avenue, between Freeport Street and Gallivan Boulevard.
